More people don't remember than do, but once upon a time in that '2112' LP by Rush, the protagonist-narrator discovers a guitar - which is a proscribed device in the religious dystopia of that album's setting - and by extension figures out concepts like "individuality" and whatnot. Mirth, mayhem, and a multi-movement epic rock suite ensues.

Meanwhile, in the endemic 2020's Pacific Northwest, another protagonist-narrator, a happy-go-lucky soul, stumbles across a Turkish bağlama (kind of redundant, as bağlamas are part and parcel of Turkish music) at a local music shop. No post-Randian ideas are explored, let alone unearthed, thank the old gods. However, mirth and mayhem in bite-sized pieces do ensue.

We'll just say it: compared to the deft and dexterous handling of the instrument by the most introductory players of the bağlama, the kind of saz-mangling on these recordings may be analogous to what a Golden Retriever might achieve with an electric guitar. After having their paws wrapped with duct tape. And gleefully claiming "I have no idea what I'm doing" for the 'gram.

On the other hand (or paw?), there has been and continues to be an ongoing reveling and revelation of making tunes with a previously (and recurrently) unfamiliar instrument, rocking out as much as one can while balancing on the constraint-poles of: keeping things under two minutes, wobbling along at 3/4 time only, and eschewing any other electric guitar (“Bass is fine!” as Ivan Chesnokov didn’t proclaim).

We humbly present we have the inaugural blasts from Korvapuusti (a questionable band name choice choice considering that a) it's Finnish cinnamon bun and b) thus not inspiring the most rocking image, but as far as we could tell no one had so far scraped that stratum of the barrel-bottom for a moniker).

And there will be more.
