about
I'd gotten turned on to Caravan, and in particular, to their indescribably fantastic album 'In the Land of Grey and Pink' by Nan, who in turn was turned on to it by her friend Jane. The title track is a delightful bit of whimsical pop that marks a wonderful mid-point in the LP, and it's also simple enough (at least for something written by a "prog" band) for me to figure out how to play on guitar.
And the rest is... well, it's like the bouncy little caravan got an chained to a 4x4 with huge, off-road tires, and then got plopped in the middle of a meadow, which got churned into a mess of trenches, drenching the standers-by in fifty shades of muddy gravy (thank you, Brian Lavelle, for helping to extend the analogy!).
Anyway, it's a humble, buzzy, fuzzy tribute to an amazing band and their stellar song, swirled up and pressed down into something that sounds like it came out of an overworked four-track cassette. Kinda reminiscent of that Suede cover by Flying Saucer Attack, now that I think about it. Hmm, perhaps a cover of "Animal Nitrate" lies down the road.
